Statement of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the UK November 16, 2020

It has been almost three decades that Baroness Caroline Cox, a member of House of Lords of the UK Parliament, in obvious disregard of the UK government’s official position on Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, supports the separatist puppet regime illegally established by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan wants to state that the recent visit of Baroness Cox to Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and her meetings with the members of the illegal regime is especially disturbing given the recent developments in the region in line with the joint statement signed on November 10, 2020 by Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as the Prime Minister of Armenia, ending the recent war between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The swift implementation of the joint statement is of utmost importance for the peaceful future transformation of the region. Yet, Baroness Cox’s visit to the region as well as her meetings with the members of illegal separatist regime amid the implementation of the joint statement is disruptive in nature and is also against the UK government’s official position which recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and welcomes the signing of the document ending the fighting.

Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan urges all parties interested in peace and security in the region to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric as well as from actions and attempts undermining the spirit and implementation of the joint statement.
