Application procedure:
Applicants may apply to the Embassy in person or by post to determine their belonging to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Applications are forwarded to the State Migration Service for review, and a response is generally received within one month.
If applying in person, applicants must book an appointment through the Electronic Appointment Portal and submit the required documents at the Embassy.
If applying by post, applicants must send the required documents along with a self-addressed, prepaid envelope (for returning the final document) to the Embassy’s address. The Embassy is not responsible for any loss or damage to postal items. Only applications with complete documentation will be accepted for processing.

Required documents:
1. Completed application form;
2. Two passport-sized photographs (3×4 cm);
3. Copy of the passport or other identity document (if unavailable, an alternative document containing the relevant personal data; if none, then an identity document of the applicant’s parents);
4. Copy of the birth certificate (if unavailable, an alternative document containing the relevant data);
5. For applicants under the age of 18 – copies of the parents’ identity documents;
6. State fee of £10:
- Cash payments are not accepted; if applying in person, payment can be made by bank card at the time of application.
- For postal applications, a Postal Order in the amount of £10 payable to "Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan" must be enclosed.
Note: In certain cases, additional documents may be required.
Grounds for the determination of citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan may be determined if the person:
1. Was a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan (or the Azerbaijan SSR) before the entry into force of the Law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” (7 October 1998);
2. Was born in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan (except in cases where both parents were citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the time of birth);
3. Has both parents who are citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan (except if the person’s birth was registered in another state);
4. Has one parent who is a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
5. Has one or both parents who acquired or lost the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
6. Was adopted by one or both parents who are citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan (in the case of a foreign or stateless child);
7. Was a refugee settled in the Republic of Azerbaijan between 1 January 1988 and 1 January 1992;
8. Is a child found in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan whose parents are unknown.
